Henry Sy Sr. (1924 – 2019) is the legendary Filipino-Chinese who gave the Philippines its iconic department store, Shoemart. SM, as it is fondly called in the country, is not only a department store comparable with the best in the world in class, service, and reputation. SM has become the weekend destination for Filipino families. It is where Filipino families nurture and strengthen their bonds over dining tables, in movie houses, and in hundreds of services that are available in the mall. SM has grown to become SM Investments, a Filipino conglomerate that has corporate interests in real estate, retail, banking, and tourism. Before his passing in 2019, Forbes Magazine recognized Henry Sy Sr. as the richest Filipino in 2018. Henry Sy Sr. is an icon and a beacon that inspires the lives of Filipino visionaries and entrepreneurs.
