George Boole (1815 – 1864) invented Boolean Algebra. It is an algebra that is different from elementary algebra because variables in Boolean algebra take two possible values only, TRUE or FALSE, which is numerically indicated by 1 for TRUE and 0 for FALSE. Elementary algebra has addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as operations, but Boolean algebra has conjunction, disjunction, and negation. Boolean algebra is the algebra that is at the heart of digital technology and computer science.
